Our Story
Two Decades of Compassionate Healthcare and Lasting Partnerships
Our clinic has grown since it was first conceived over twenty years ago by Matthews United Methodist parish nurse, Gail Dokes, RN and Lou Ann McAdams, MD. Their passion and dedication to serving the low-income, uninsured people in the Matthews area was contagious and drew in partners that invested in growing the clinic so more people could be served. Many early partners remain committed to this day, Matthews United Methodist Church, Novant Health Matthews Medical Center, LabCorp, Mecklenburg Radiology Associates, and many more. We are honored and proud to be able to continue to serve our community, thanks to all of those that invest time and resources in to our mission.
The Matthews Free Medical Clinic provides free, quality health care to low-income, uninsured individuals in Mecklenburg and Union Counties.
We are a nonprofit organization funded by grants, donations and our Annual Hearts & Hands Benefit in the fall.
Do you accept walk-ins?
Because Matthews Free Medical Clinic is a medical home, we are not able to accommodate walk-ins. All of our patients are scheduled in advance, from new applicant appointments to primary and specialty care. This allows us to not only provide the highest quality care, but also show each patient the individual care they deserve.
